Queen la Toofa Says, “Let them Eat Cake…And Lots of It!”

Queen la Toofa

Brace yourself: she is a sweet tooth with a lot of nerve. Her royal roots grow deep. Queen la Toofa’s family line (of Tartar ancestry) came into power when her grandfather, King Choppers III, flossed Buckingtooth Palace of the False Teeth clan and began to rule the land. His overbite was strong. The streets ran with flouride. Yet the bridge did not fall, my fair lady. Since taking the reins, this tooth with a crown, Queen la Toofa, has ruled with a fair hand and a smile for all.I recently checked out Teresa Laskey’s book “Softies: Simple Instructions for 25 Plush Pals”. It is chok-full of awesome cutness that you will want to make. Check out her website too for more softy goodies. The book features plush toy patterns made by lots of different artists the world over. Queen la Toofa is modeled after Teresa Levy’s “Tooth With a Crown” pattern. I decided to add lips and eyelashes and little red felt jewels in the crown. I made her out of some canvas that was just lying around (I didn’t have any other white-ish fabric). So, she is a lot stiffer and more rigid than the toy was designed to be. It calls for crushed velvet or velour. Oh well. I like using old clothes, thrift store finds cannibalized for fabric, and things “just lying around”. If you ask me, Queen la Toofa looks a little like Divine’s friend, Edith Massey, R.I.P. Egg man! Egg man! Queen la Toofa now resides in the home of my friend Colette, who has just returned to New Orleans with her husband and baby after a long hiatus in the nether regions of the Louisiana backwoods, a.k.a. Nachitoches (I jest; it’s not that bad; it’s actually very cute). No thanks to Katrina! Poor Colette will soon be inundated (um, no pun intended there, honestly) with many more of my mutant creations.

I have plans on making another tooth, but changing the pattern to an entirely different breed (to give you an idea, his name will be King Cavity and he will be three times larger than the Queen). Check out those websites and let me know what you think!

BTW: Did I miss any dental puns? Cuz I tried to get them all in there. Sorry :)
